Week 2, Life Crisis

This week's post is sponsored by: my brother Bryce Miller (I would not be able to impress my friends with how cool my van is without him helping me build everything inside it) Thank you Bryce!

Updates:

This week has been a time of settling in, figuring out routines, and enjoying the people and world around me. If you did not know, Monday was the full moon. In college, my friends and I started having “full moon parties” where we would invite our friends over and make pancakes in the shape of the full moon. (Very impressive, I know). It was pretty much

just an excuse to gather our friends and celebrate together.

I took this tradition home with me and forced my family to celebrate the full moon with me when it was around. We started inviting whoever we knew and if they were free, they would join us in having pancakes for supper. This tradition, although different than with my friends, still had the same effect: bringing people together.

I knew the first full moon back in my college town would be strange. I am in the place where it all started, but not in the same apartment, my friends are spread across the country, I don’t have my family around, and my life looks completely different.

Talk about having a life crisis!! I realized, however, that although change is scary and uncomfortable, it is okay. It is okay that my full moon parties might just be me sometimes. It is okay that my friends aren’t always around (although it sucks). It is okay to be uncomfortable. It is okay that life is changing. I have started to live with the faith that it is all okay.

Change is growth and any time you grow, it is going to be painful. Life outside of being a student is a new world for me, and a huge growing pain. But that’s all it is, growing pains. I will get there and I am determined to enjoy the process. We have a choice in how we react to our circumstances, and I want to enjoy my life right now. So even in the painful and scary unknown, I am looking for the small delights in each day. (I am learning from tennis along with my players)!

Thankfully, my family had a group Zoom call on Monday night. It was so fun to catch up with everyone, tell stories, laugh, share our trials, and be “together”. Mom and Dad are at home, Bryce and Darla just moved into their new home in Indiana, and Dustin just moved back to college. It is crazy how quickly we went from all living under one roof to being spread out again. Anyhow, I got my full moon party after all! (Although I was the only one who got to enjoy the pancakes).

This is the only life crisis I had this week.

Quote of the Week:

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.”

- Abraham Maslow

This Week:

What I have been doing: Tennis practice, sending emails, going to bed at 9:30, and losing track of my belongings even though I only have like 9 square feet they could be in.

(Can't find a photo) (haha)

What I have NOT been doing: sitting in my camp chair because I broke it while leaning too far over trying to reach the trash can :(

What I have been wearing: Extra blankets and layers in bed because it has started to cool off in the evenings

What I have been eating: Rice and beans with an egg on top

(Sorry I didn't take any pictures even though I had it like 5 times)

What I have been reading: While Time Remains -Yeonmi Park

What I forgot at home: All of the basic tools I should have with me… I had to go buy a hammer, pliers, and a tape measure at Walmart

Stats:

“Quickly”s yelled at practice: at the very least 20

People asking for a van tour: 7

People asking how I shower: 10

People asking if living out of a vehicle is by choice: 2

Farmers markets visited: 1

Cups of coffee purchased: 3

Cups of coffee I made: 4

Problem of the Week:

I am taking Marv to the mechanic tomorrow (Monday) because the engine seems to be having problems (according to the light on the dash), and I am still living on the edge with the spare tire. The problem is, I didn’t think about my house being connected to my engine. Therefore, I have to take all my belongings to the mechanic as well. Having to clean my house before going to the mechanic is kind of insane. Anyhow, a friend of mine is letting me stay at her place and borrow a bike while Marv is out of commission, hooray! I am struggling to figure out how much of my stuff I need to take out of the van, and how long are they going to have it.

Should I ask if I can have access in case I need different clothes? I am open to any insight or suggestions!

Delights

Grandma Ann sent me a card this week, one of the tennis players gave me a picture they painted, a friend got me fruity dino bites because I was talking about how much I love cereal, I found my scissors, and found a spot for my hat. Life is good.

Thanks for catching up!
